Report by Tony Morrison, GNPC Vice President & Athlete Development
Former GNPC President June Mair successfully organized the 2008 Guam National Bodybuilding & Body Fitness Championship while preparing to compete as well. Mair's 1st place victory at the 2007 South Pacific Games in Samoa prompted her to get on stage once again winning another Gold Medal.
The 2008 Guam National Bodybuilding & Body Fitness Championship was held on October 11th at the Guam Sheraton Laguna Resort. Among the highlight of the evening was Joseph Aguon, Guam's youngest competitor who made an outstanding debut winning 1st Place in the bantamweight division and 2nd Place in the Junior Division. At 17 years old, Aguon presented an exceptional physique showing great lines, symmetry, and muscularity. GNPC is confident Joseph Aguon will continue in the sport of bodybuilding and that he will represent Guam in the Junior World Championships in the near future.
Teichy Auputiw, the lightweight Gold Medalist left a lasting impression on the judges and audience coming in with his ridiculous condition and dryness. The judges had to recall during the finals because it was evident Auputiw dominated the division with his superior physique. Auputiw reappeared in the finals looking more devastating compared to his pre-judging performance giving the judges no choice but to award him 1st place.
The welterweight division winner, Norbert Datuin, was awarded overall champion making this his second overall championship. Datuin was a former competitor who decided to return once again to earn the title, Mr. Guam. With this accomplishment, he plans on furthering his competitive bodybuilding in international events.
An impressive line of Body Fitness competitors was presented on stage and GNPC is pleased to find more female athletes competing in Body Fitness. The GNPC is hoping to send a team of female athletes to compete in the 2009 Women's World Championship in Como, Italy.
