Robinson Chaco
By: GBB

Robinson is 21 years old and stands tall at 5'-6". He started his diet early June and now weights 152lbs after losing  20lbs. It might not be a lot of weight but it takes hard work to lose all that in just a matter of months.

Robinson is a full time student, studies, works and helps out with the family business.  He's a very busy person yet he still manage to set priorities including, sticking with his diet plan and workout regimens. Now that's what I call dedication.

I first met Robinson working out at the gym with Devin, his cousin who is joining the Nationals this year. Robinson's physique during the photo shoot revealed his hard earned muscles and very much paid off. Whatever he did he must be doing it right.

There is a saying, "never judge a book by its cover". For Robinson you can't judge him for what he has under those loose- fitting clothes he wears to the gym.  If you want to see his final results, you will see him on the stage this September at the Nationals.

GBB: How long have you been bodybuilding?

I've been bodybuilding since I was 14 years old. When I first started bodybuilding it was mostly about power lifting, not so much into getting shape, but just achieving strength.  And later on, my senior year, just recently, it's been more on developing my physique.

I've always had an interest in bodybuilding, but I never had the discipline. The one person who inspired me and brought me to the gym every morning was my uncle Tony, that's Devin's dad, I owe it all to him.  He got me into bodybuilding and helped me develop a stronger body through extreme weight lifting. He trained me into the bodybuilder that I am today.

GBB: What has been your main focus of motivation to be the best you can be this September?

My main two motivations are: One, not embarrass my cousin, Devin because we're related. I got to go in there looking good. Two, I'm a very competitive person so if I do compete into something, I'm going to give it my all. Give my 100 percent and not back down.

GBB: How were you inspired to compete?

My motivation for doing the show was one of my cousins, Devin.  When he joined the Nationals, it sparked my interest. I told myself that I should try it too.

GBB: What supplements have been most beneficial for your contest preparation?

In terms of protein shakes.  I been taking whey protein and nitro peak. Those have been my main sources for my pre-workout and post work-out shakes.  I been taking fat burners called Lipo6x and another one my cousin Devin recommended but I forgot the name. But it was really good. (Laughing)

GBB: Have you cheated on your diet? If so how?

Since I've been dieting so far, I've probably cheated.TWICE!  And those twice were one for my sister's birthday and my mom's anniversary.  It was a Brazilian BBQ restaurant, all you can eat meat. Technically it's not really cheating. I just ate too much protein in one sitting. (Laughing out loud)

GBB: Describe your diet.

My diet is really simple. I take around 1500-2000 calories a day. I take four solid meals a day and then two protein shakes. That's a total of 6 meals per day. The solid meals are consisting of chicken breast, tuna or lean turkey breast. I also take wheat bread, brown rice or oatmeal for my carbohydrates.  Simplicity is blessed. The simpler it is, the easier to follow.

I also keep my body hydrated and drink a gallon of water per day since I'm in a low sodium diet. The water I intake doesn't really stay in my body long because salt is what helps retain water.  Since my sodium is low, when I drink water, it depletes the minute I take it. Not to mention I also do a lot of cardio. I sweat out maybe 3 lbs worth of water during one 45 minute cardio session.

GBB: Is this show a team effort or have you prepare yourself?

I've been helped out with training and posing by my cousin, Devin.  For my diet, I used his as a foundation for what my diet should be and looked up online for extra advice. So in a sense, it is a team effort, I am getting a lot of help from my cousin, Devin.  And at the same time I am also doing a lot of lifting on my own.

GBB:  What is your training like?

3 days on, 1 day off then 3 days on, that way it's never the same body parts on the same day.  It's a routine where my body will never adapt or will never get use to because it's never the same sequence. Every week, it's always different. I start out on legs, next day it will be chest and after chest it will be delts and then break. And then after break it will be back and then after back it will be arms, and after arms it will be back to legs. Every week it's always a new training regimen, always new, different things. So my body never hit plateau and it keeps on progressing.

GBB: What is the most unusual strategy you have practiced in preparation for the 2010 Nationals?

Methods I use every time I lift weights are a combination of these strategies: High intensity workouts, high reps workouts, heavy weights workouts and concentration workouts.  Every time I workout, I always have a mixture of 3. I always have high reps, heavy weights and concentration workouts. These are the three that make up my workout routines for every single body parts.

I always hit something heavy so that way my muscles will always grow larger. I always do higher reps that way my muscles will get more ripped.  I always do concentration workouts that way my body will always have symmetry.  Just by mixing the 3 sometimes the workouts that I do felt kind of awkward, because the position that I need to be taking. When you move from heavy weight then you move to concentration, it's completely different of moving your body.

GBB: What are your future plans? Do you see yourself doing modeling or competing more in future bodybuilding shows?

Honestly, I see myself wanting to compete again after this competition. I look at this competition as a test. My main goal is winning the overall for the Guam bodybuilding competitions.  I'm pretty sure I'm not going to be able to do that this year. But I'm going to try my best to come in the best condition as I can. And next year or the year after that I will be leaner and be more fit. My goals really if I'm able to do well then I want to try and compete off island and see how that goes.

I don't think I'm much of a model person (Laughs) Modeling is not really in there. (Laughs)

GBB: What advice do you have for those younger generations who want start bodybuilding and has no clue where to begin?

First thing I would tell them that you have to be mentally ready to drive yourself to motivation. Do what you need to do. Don't say I'm going to go to the gym, just go to the gym! That's pretty much what it is. The first step is just going to the gym. Second on, after going to the gym and getting your feet wet and hitting the weights for a few weeks and getting your body use to that, then adjust yourself for your diet.

Because the mistake that a lot of people make is they think  just by lifting weights they will be fit and lean and in shape but that's not the truth. In order to be fit it takes a combination not just weights but also dieting. You have to have a good diet. And the only way to get a good diet is to see a nutritionist, see a personal trainer or go online like me and do some research. The web has everything!
